Laminate Benchtops, Top Kitchen Benchtop Options

When the time comes to put in a new benchtop in your kitchen, there is no shortage of options in terms of materials and styles. Some of the most popular at the moment are laminate benchtops, which are composed of several synthetic layers. A decorative paper can be chosen, which is then covered with melamine or other plastic materials. There are a number of benefits to using laminate, including the fact that they are the least expensive option. They also are available in a wide range of different colours and styles, to suit any decorative scheme in the rest of the kitchen or bathroom.

The price of any laminate benchtops will include the cost of the materials used to construct it, as well as the construction method that is used. The countertop material is chosen first, and then this is sealed within two different layers of plastic. These layers are then sealed with heat, using a laminating machine. Because numerous designs can be completed at the same time using industrial equipment, and the price point of plastic is fairly low to begin with, these countertops will cost on average only half the amount of other types of materials.

Another benefit to using laminate benchtops is that they are nonporous. This allows them to repel growth of bacteria, mould, or mildew. They can be easily wiped off with antibacterial kitchen sprays or other gentle cleansers. Easy to clean and resistant to bacteria, they are safe for use by the whole family. However, one factor to think about in terms of maintenance is the fact that they can be scratched, so it's best to use nonabrasive cloths to wipe down the surface rather than rough scouring pads. Using cutting boards on top of the benchtop can save it from knife marks, as well.

Once you have determined that you want to use this type of material, the next step is to choose the right colour or style. There are natural earth tones which are meant to mimic stone countertops, such as marble or granite, which are quite popular. Other popular stylistic options for laminate benchtops include the use of bold colours, including primary tones. Black, white, grey, and blue are classic choices, which can blend well into just about any type of kitchen decorative scheme. To choose the right colour or pattern, you can compare different samples and see how they would fit into your current kitchen's vibe to make the best decision.
