Environmental Policy

Environmental Policy photo We are committed to caring for our environment, both natural and man made to the best of our ability.

We will keep our workplaces clean and free from rubbish or debris and maintain buildings, plant and equipment to a high level of efficiency and functionality. We will minimize the use of consumables, especially water and energy having regard their environmental impact and we will maximise the recycling opportunities for residues and waste streams. We will refrain from discharging hazardous materials into air, ground or water.

All policies followed by Gunnersen P/L for the procurement of trading stocks will promote renewable and sustainable forest growth, will promote local employment and poverty reduction and will promote the local environmental considerations of biodiversity, soil and water retention and air quality. Wood supplies will be legal and certified whenever possible.

AFS and FSC Chain of Custody Certification

Gunnersen is continuing its commitment to the responsible management and sustainability of global forest resources by obtaining Chain of Custody certification under both the Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) and the Forest Sterwardship Council (FSC) schemes.

The AFS and FSC are both internationally recognised organisations run by independent third parties that promote responsible stewardship of the world's forests.

The objectives of the schemes are to:

Provide assurance to end users that the products they are purchasing came from a source that:

is legal, and

-   is managed in such a way that it ensures positive:

§         environmental outcomes

§         social outcomes, and

§         economic outcomes

Gunnersen understands the valuable role we play ensuring the integrity of forest products in the supply chain. Obtaining Chain of Custody enables us a verifiable connection between an end product and a certified source.

Official recognition of the Chain of Custody certifications is expected prior to the 30th June 2008.
