Exterior Plywood and its uses
|
|
Exterior Plywood is manufactured to AS/NZS 2271 and intended for use in non-structural, exterior applications where a high quality aesthetic finish is required. Imported exterior plywood may be manufactured to other international standards other than EWPAA, such as IHPA*or the JPIC grading standards.
The main benefit of plywood is its incredible ease of use. Plywood can be cut and shaped with basic tools. Plywood can also be bent into shapes that are not flat with relative ease. Compared to other wood products, plywood can change and retain shape easily and without the threat of splitting or warping. This allows someone with little experience to cut panels on an as-needs basis.
Because of its robust nature, plywood can be cut to size or nailed together side by side on a frame, it generally comes in 2440 x 1200mm, although certain companies will create custom-sized plywood panels at an additional cost to the consumer.
GLUE BONDS
Glues used to bond veneers together is an element that influences the application of the plywood. Common glues are as follows:
‘A Bond’ (WBP) - a waterproof glue line produced from phenolic resins (WBP -Water Boil Proof adhesive). A bond is distinctly dark in colour and is durable and permanent under conditions of full weather exposure and long term stress.
‘B Bond’ - produced from melamine fortified urea formaldehyde resin and suitable for limited exposure.
