Description
Description
Wood veneer has the warm, rich beauty and individuality of natural timber. It is a premium decorative finish for quality furniture and joinery applications. Natural Timber Veneer is the most efficient and economical usage of timber for decorative panels. Only the highest grade of veneer is used enabling effects that are impossible to achieve using any substitute product. It is environmentally sympathetic with veneers sliced to 0.6mm thick and a surface coverage approximately forty times more than 25mm timber. The result is a natural look with the warmth and beauty of solid timber with variation in colour and grain structure.
CUT AND GRAIN PATTERN
A veneer is produced by slicing or peeling selected logs at approximately 0.6mm in thickness. Each peeled veneer is called a 'leaf' and has a certain grain pattern as per the cutting technique. The most common cutting techniques produce the following grain patterns:
Leaves of veneer are matched to create sheets for pressing onto board. The most common matching technique of veneer is Book Matched, whereby every alternative leaf is flipped so the back meets the front and joins to produce a mirror image of the one next to it. Other matching techniques such as Slip Matching, Reverse Matching and Random Matching can be specified to create different effects.
SUBSTRATE
Veneer leaves are glued together to form a sheet of veneer and then adhered to a substrate (board). Depending on the application, one of the following can be used:
- Standard Particleboard
- Moisture Resistant Particleboard
- Standard MDF
- Moisture Resistant MDF
- Plywood
VENEER GRADE
Veneer Board requires a 'face' veneer and a 'back' veneer to balance the substrate and avoid bowing. 'Face' veneer is usually select 'A' grade veneer. Backing veneer is usually a lower grade (down-grade) veneer of the same species as the 'face'. This is suitable for applications such as cupboard doors, where both sides of the board will be seen. Where only one side of the board is seen, a 'balancing back' can be used. This is any low grade veneer and species and can reduce the cost.
| Type | Translation | Description | Application |
| G1S | Good One Side | Select "A" grade veneer on face of board without a backing veneer | Door Skins |
| G2S | Good Two Sides | The same first grade veneer is on face and back of panel | Partitions |
| DGB | Down Grade Back | The same specie of veneer is on the face and back of the panel however the face is first grade and the back lower grade | Cupboard doors, kitchen cabinets & furniture |
| BAMO | Back at manufacturer's option | First grade specified veneer is on the face of the panel with any 'Back at Manufacturer’s Option' | Furniture and feature walls |
